Q & A with SHAUN

When did you first begin playing soccer? I began playing at 5 years old.

How did you join the U.S. Paralympic Team? I went to a try-out when I was 15.

What is your most memorable moment with the team? Scoring my 1st goal vs. Spain in the world championships.

Who was your first soccer coach? My Mom, Freedom Area Soccer Team.

What do you feel is your strength as a player? Passing, and understanding the game.

What do you feel is your weakness as a player? Dribbling under pressure.

Which professional or international soccer player is your role model? David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo.

What have you learned about yourself from your time with the team? That I can handle myself in unfamiliar situations very well.

What would you tell a young player to motivate them to play the game of soccer? That you can go as far as you want as long as you work hard.

How has playing with the team positively affected your life? It has allowed me to realize that I can be successful in sports even though I have a physical disability.

Which college are you attending, or graduated, if any? Southern Vermont College, transferring to California University of Pennsylvania starting Fall 2009.

What is your area of study, or which major, or degree did you obtain? Sport Management.

Since the team is not a full-time job, what do you do full-time? Attend school.

What is your goal in life? What dreams do you have? What do you want to attain in life? I want to be a general manager of a professional sports team or a head coach.

If you had enough money to do whatever you wanted to the rest of your life, what would you spend your time doing? Coaching soccer or working with a sports team.

Which person has been the most influential and motivational in your life? Mom, Grandfather.

Who is(are) your role model(s) outside of soccer? Mom and Grandfather.

What are some obstacles you've encountered in your life and how did you overcome them? Playing sports with kids that do not have any physical limitations. Just by working hard everyday.

Can you share a little bit about your family? Brothers, sisters? I have an 18 year old sister, Courtney.

Of all the places you have traveled or lived, where is your favorite place? Brazil.

If you could turn back time and change one decision in your past, what would it be? I probably would have worked a little harder in high school to maybe get into a better school.

If we were casting the movie of your life, which actor would you pick to play you? Myself, because there is only one me and having someone else play it would be inaccurate.

If you could have one superhero power, what would it be? Hulk-like strength.

If you had to choose only ten CDs to listen to for the next three years, what would they be? Rap, and I would probably listen to what ever is on my iPOD cause I do not own CDs.

Are you artistic? I have no artistic ability.

What would you tell someone so that they had a better understanding of your disability and what it means to you? That I am the same as you but only I have to work harder at certain things that come easy to you.

What is your favorite quotation? "Impossible is nothing" and "Only the strong survive."

Of which accomplishments in your life (excluding soccer) are you most proud? Getting into college and being able to play college soccer.
